A 'Young Rangers' Experience

Become a Park Ranger and help us care for our park and its wildlife. We will be patrolling through Leavesden Country Park, surveying its wildlife and reporting back all that we have discovered.

These are Park Ranger led experiences for children. If you child has additional needs and requires 1-2-1 supervision, please make sure the 1-2-1 supervision attends with the child.

Young Rangers is for children aged 6-10 year old.

A Bug and Butterfly Exploration

Join us to explore the bugs and butterflies within Leavesden Country Park. We will be using nets and pots to have a closer look at the invertebrates that we spot and identification charts to help us identify them.

All ages welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Active Families

Active Families, which forms part of our Active Parks programme, is a series of family friendly games and activities in parks and open spaces across the month of August. 
 
There will be a range of sports on offer from rounders and cricket to tennis and basketball as well as fun family friendly games such as capture the flag, Frisbee and orienteering challenges that the whole family can do together.
 
Each session will be facilitated by experienced staff who will be on hand to help run the sessions and offer suggestions. Activity sessions will take place across the district in the daytime, evenings and weekends to enable working families to take part as well.

Beginners Running

Taking up running can seem like a scary prospect, especially if you feel out of shape or unfit. Aimed at beginners our learn to run course is the perfect way to start.

Whether you've never run before or if you just want to get more active, running is an easy way of getting fitter and healthier. You will follow a similar programme to couch to 5k programme with the help of a qualified instructor who will guide you each week. You will mix walking with running each week creating realistic expectations and making the challenge feel achievable right from the start. This builds up week on week to get you up to jogging 5k after eight weeks.

This session combines boxing and exercise in a great, stress busting activity for all abilities  and who want to enjoy boxing training without getting hit! The session provides a full-body workout, toning and strengthens the core, and improving cardio, hand-eye co-ordination, and balance.

Circuits in the Park

Providing a full-body workout, tones and strengthens the core, and improves cardio. Classes will be in a Circuit format designed to improve your all-round fitness, as well as provide a chance to reduce stress and improve energy levels.

Croxley Skate Camps

Skate lessons for children over 5 will be running this Summer holiday at Croxley Skate Park  providing young people the opportunity to come and learn how to skateboard.

Skateboard and safety equipment provided. Sessions will be cancelled if it’s raining or if the skate park is very wet.

Get Set Sail

We aim to give people with a disability, their families and carers the opportunity to enjoy a safe and pleasurable experience of sailing at Bury lake.

It’s the perfect way to feel tranquility and freedom on the water.

Each boat and katakanu are specially designed to help support those with a disability and the CVSS offer full assistance with getting in and out of the boats and full sailing safety to make your experience as enjoyable as possible.

You will sail with a CVSS sailing buddy. A hoist is available on request.

Join Martin Brooks, Founder of Leavesden Hospital History Association, in a guided walk through the grounds of Leavesden Country Park. Learn about the fascinating history of the hospitals that once filled the grounds of the park and played such an important role in the treatment of mental health and in the Leavesden community.

Summer photography walks

Join us and get creative on one of our popular photography walks!

You will be accompanied by Pete, our professional photographer and friendly guides, taking in the scenery at a relaxed pace. Using your Smartphone, tablet or digital camera, you can pick up tips on how to capture some amazing photos, which will feature in our online gallery afterwards and be entered into our ‘best snap’ competition. No experience is necessary and everyone is welcome!

Cassiobury Park - this walk uses pathways, so it is suitable for wheelchair users.

Rickmansworth Aquadrome - this walk uses pathways, so it is suitable for wheelchair users.

Swimming After Stroke

Swimming after a Stroke is an opportunity to participate in specific water therapy exercises and practice your swimming with fellow stroke survivors. The classes are instructed by a fully qualified swimming and aquatic therapy instructor in a relaxed atmosphere.

The therapeutic properties of the water help to support the body by using the buoyancy and resistance of the water to move your body and build your muscular strength. The aim is to improve quality of your body’s movement and improve your strength and balance.

Tai Chi in the Park

Tai Chi is an ancient form of exercise that strengthens the body,relaxes the mind and lifts the spirit through combining deep breathing and relaxation with flowing movements.  including better balance and improved fitness. 
 
Tai Chi and Meditation are great tools to improve individual health and well-being for all ages. These teachings can be learned and integrated into everyday life, helping to relieve stress, attain balance and promote self-confidence.

Come along and see what mini-beasts you can find and where they live. 

Go wild on our bug 'safari' through the park.

We'll discover lots of mini beasts and get to have a close up look at them in our special bug collectors. 

With the help of the Park Ranger we will learn some fun facts and find out more about their habitats.

Wild Flower Nordic Walk

Our local park ranger, Damien Weller, will guide you on this gentle paced walk and share knowledge of the natural world.

The walk will be at a leisurely pace with plenty of stops to identify, admire and of course photograph our local wildflowers. 

If you need to hire poles, please let us know in advance and there is a £2 hire charge to the walk leader on the day. Pole hire subject to availability.

Yoga

Yoga in the Park

Stones Orchard and Rickmansworth Aquadrome 

Vinyasa flow - this flow yoga class will be made up of physical practice as well as meditation and breath work. Being able to practice yoga  in our beautiful parks and open spaces  outdoors will allow you to feel calm and connect with nature and release any tension through a series of yoga poses aimed at increasing flexibility and building strength.

Leavesden Country Park  

Traditional Hatha Yoga with a focus on bringing balance to the body and mind.  Through breathing, creating strength, energy & flexibility. Suitable for all abilities.
