A Bat Walk around Leavesden Country Park

Meet us at Leavesden HIVE for a chat about bats and a quick refreshment before heading out into the park with the bat detectors to discover these magical mammals of the night in their habitat.

We will have bat detectors for you to use and the Park Ranger will be on hand to help identify the bats that we see and explain their important role in the biodiversity of our green spaces.

Beginners Running

Taking up running can seem like a scary prospect, especially if you feel out of shape or unfit. Aimed at beginners our learn to run course is the perfect way to start.

Whether you've never run before or if you just want to get more active, running is an easy way of getting fitter and healthier. You will follow a similar programme to couch to 5k programme with the help of a qualified instructor who will guide you each week. You will mix walking with running each week creating realistic expectations and making the challenge feel achievable right from the start. This builds up week on week to get you up to jogging 5k after eight weeks.

Butterfly Walk

We aim to give people with a disability, their families and carers the opportunity to enjoy a safe and pleasurable experience of sailing at Bury lake.

It’s the perfect way to feel tranquility and freedom on the water.

Each boat and katakanu are specially designed to help support those with a disability and the CVSS offer full assistance with getting in and out of the boats and full sailing safety to make your experience as enjoyable as possible.

You will sail with a CVSS sailing buddy. A hoist is available on request.

Needle Felting Workshop

Do you enjoy getting creative?

If so, join us for one of our needle felting workshop! Anne-Marie will introduce you to needle felting, a process she teaches in many of her community based workshops.
Using basic materials, you will be shown you how to make your own zesty, felted fruits to take away with you.

The workshop is suitable for those aged 10 or over (this is not suitable for younger ages, due to the sharp equipment)
Cost of £5 includes materials and refreshments.

Play Rangers Photography Walk

Our photographer Pete will be joining the Play Rangers at one of their FREE play sessions in South Oxhey this Easter holiday, for a special photography walk. Click here to find out more about the Play Ranger sessions.
Suitable for ages 8 - 16 only.
Spaces for the walk are free, but must be booked in advance.
Please note that the meeting point for this walk is the entrance just off Ashburnham Drive.
Our walks takes place whatever the weather, so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear!
*Children attending this walk can rejoin the rest of the Play Rangers session, which will run from 1pm-3pm within the Playing Fields.

Statutory training meeting the requirement of the ‘robust 3-yearly training’ for whole staff communities. This course is essential for all staff working with Children and Young People. Exploring Duty of Care in line with Safeguarding Partnership (formally LSCB) procedures – this training promotes understanding of national guidance and procedures, recognising the four categories of abuse, listening to children and awareness raising of key challenges including Online Safety, radicalisation, Criminal Exploitation (including County Lines and Child Sexual Exploitation) and HBV (Honour-Based Violence including FGM – Female Genital Mutilation).

Smartphone & Digital Photography Walks

Join us and get creative on one of our popular photography walks!

You will be accompanied by Pete, our professional photographer and friendly guides, taking in the scenery at a relaxed pace. Using your Smartphone, tablet or digital camera, you can pick up tips on how to capture some amazing photos, which will feature in our online gallery afterwards and be entered into our ‘best snap’ competition. No experience is necessary and everyone is welcome!

Cassiobury Park - this walk uses pathways, so it is suitable for wheelchair users.

Rickmansworth Aquadrome - this walk uses pathways, so it is suitable for wheelchair users.

Leavesden Country Park - this walk uses pathways, so it is suitable for wheelchair users.

Chorleywood House Grounds - Please note due to the terrain, this walk is not suitable for wheelchair users.

Swimming After Stroke

Swimming after a Stroke is an opportunity to participate in specific water therapy exercises and practice your swimming with fellow stroke survivors. The classes are instructed by a fully qualified swimming and aquatic therapy instructor in a relaxed atmosphere.

The therapeutic properties of the water help to support the body by using the buoyancy and resistance of the water to move your body and build your muscular strength. The aim is to improve quality of your body’s movement and improve your strength and balance.
